Craig Baumberger After The Laughter (CD)

Description: Further DetailsTitle: After The LaughterCondition: NewFormat: CDEAN: 5013136173925Genre: FolkDescription: Third in a series of recordings by Banjohova Witness. Folk, folkgrass, Americana. Thank you for listening. All songs except Polecat Orchestra selections, were written by Craig "Boze" Baumberger. Tune for "Right To Work", borrowed from Woody Guthrie and "The 1913 Massacre." Reprised by Bob Dylan in "Song For Woody". Thanks to Travis Briles for his hard work recording and mixing and Greenville College, Greenville, Il for making their studio available for a big part of the recording and mixing of this cd. Jerry Chapman, Elm Point, Il, played guitar and played it well, on the tracks recorded in Greenville. Mike "Goose" Miller, Panama, Il, added the bass in a departure from his usual Swamp Daddies repertoire. Maurice "Swamp" Weiss, Greenville, added spice to the sauce with his mandolin, fiddle, and harmony vocals. David Johnson, Mt Juliet, Tn, added his banjo tracks in his Criminal Records studio in Mt Juliet. "Hound Dog", Jane Fonda," and "Coming Down" were recorded and mixed at Criminal Records, the home of David and Melody Johnson in Mt Juliet. David, "The King of the Five String," did all the recording and mixing as well as the three finger banjo on two of the three songs. Melody, played bass on all three and added harmony on "Jane Fonda". "Swamp", as usual, did most of the hard work. He laid down the basic guitar tracks on all three songs, then added lovely resonator guitar on "Coming Down." For "Hound Dog" and "Jane Fonda", he added a guitar lead and mandolin, as well as a harmony vocal on both. The instrumental work of all musician's involved in this project, is just as important to making it something worth listening to as the lyrics, and I have to say, I am pleased with the lyric content. Without much rehearsal, they all made these tunes sound like their favorites. There is one change to "Jane Fonda" that occurred to me after the final mix. I will add it below: When I hear Dick Cheney talk about Iraq, He tells me he has no regrets, He would not take it back. He said Saddam had an atom bomb, And we were going to die. Turned to be a rumor, turned to be a lie. The Polecat Orchestra, played box socials and Farmer's Union meetings in the Reno, Illinois area in the 1930's. Members were Neil and Max Hensley, Fred and Keith Baumberger. Violis Finke was another local musician in the Reno area. He invited the "Orchestra" to record on his Zenith recorder. He played accordion with the band on "Just Because." Thanks to Fred Baumberger, my dad, for permission to use portions of these recordings on this cd. They are favorites of mine. I have led a fortunate life, blessed with opportunity and success in many things. I have not always given as good as was given to me.
