Description: DESCRIPTION: This has one of the most beautiful and unusual blooms in the world of crinums. Crinum blooms are usually solid in color or white with red/pink stripes. Blush pink flowers are our favorite from the more than 1000 different crinum that we grow including about 350 of our own hybrids. Summer Nocturne has graceful, star-shaped blooms that start white in the center and blend to a pink-blush towards the tips of the petals. They are very strong, sweet-scented, free flowering and and prolific in setting lots of new offset bulbs. The foliage is fountainesque, blunt and clean. It can have up to 14 flowers on 44+" tall scapes. They will form large, beautiful clumps if left undisturbed for many years. This variety likes LOTS of water, but will do OK in regular garden soil. We have had these in pots in our goldfish/koi ponds. BACKGROUND: This is a "masterpiece" bulb hybridized by Thad Howard from C. moorei and C. erubescens. It is larger and has better color than similar blush hybrids from C. moorei including "Maiden's Blush" and "White Mogul." GROWING CONDITIONS: This is a semi-hardy and easy to grow bulb requiring no special care. It tolerates a wide range of soils and cool temperatures, at least to zone 7B. They have bloomed here in zone 9 every month from May through November. They should do best planted in the ground in full sun or partial shade, but they will also make excellent container plants. They especially like lots of moisture and can actually grow in puddles of water or a pond. They can survive nicely out of the ground for very extended periods if allowed to dry. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on a small-size bulb at least 1 year old and about 1/2" in diameter which should bloom within 3 years. Crinum do not like to be moved, so it can take a year just to "settle in." Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves March-November. In the winter months the leaves may be absent. WE SIZE OUR BULBS APPROXIMATELY BY AGE AS FOLLOWS: A few varieties can take 6 years or more to bloom.
