Description: Here I have for sale a well-preserved copy of C.S. Forester's Beat to Quarters published in this war time reprint by Sun Dial Press in 1943 in hardcover with beautiful pictorial dust jacket. Chronologically, this is #6 in the Hornblower saga timeline, published in England as The Happy Return. Both Sun Dial and Grosset & Dunlop war time reprints are quite collectible in their own right. This book is VG with surprising clean boards and gilt for an 80 year old book. Binding is tight. Tanning, smudging to endpapers and tanning to page ends. Pages clean and unmarked but for prior seller's penciled price and notation on front endpaper. The dust jacket has a wonderful painting that is unattributed. It is VG- to Good+ with still bright colors. Significant chipping to top and bottom of spine, corners and panel edges. Staining to rear panel. It is not price-clipped and is protected in mylar.
