Description: Cucumis melo agrestis is a climbing annual in the Cucurbitaceae family. A native to Asia. Used in Indian cuisine as a powder to tenderize kababs. It grows along the ground 3-5 feet out in every direction. The vine is covered in hairs and has tendrils that help pull the plant out. The leaves are 1-2 inches heart-shaped. It has small yellow flowers like most gourds and is in bloom from July to September. It prefers to grow in sandy, well-drained loamy clay soils. Annual Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover with soil. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
