Description: I have for sale a "Cupid Awake" & "Cupid Asleep" prints on wooden blocks ready to hang. (each picture is 3 3/8 inches by 2 3/4 inches) Printed on both Cupid's arrows is "Copyright 1897 By M. B. Parkinson". M. B. Parkinson the photographer who took the Cupid images worked in New York City during the latter part of the 1800's and early 1900's. His young model, Josephine Anderson, was the daughter of a friend, a single mother who worked and sometimes left her child in Parkinson's care. Josephine died in the 1970's. Parkinson copyrighted his prints in 1897 and they were distributed by Taber-Prang Art Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1908 the Ohio Art Company began selling picture frames in which the Cupid prints were displayed. Sold in Kresges's, Sears and Woolworth's the Cupids were very popular and were seen in many homes across the country. In 1938 The Ohio Art Company bought the copyright from Taber-Prang after they went bankrupt. Prints comes from a smoke free home and are in excellent condition. Email me with any questions.
