He studied at the Secondary School of Civil Engineering in Prague, University of Applied Arts Prague — Blažíček Oldřich, State Graphic School — Secondary School of Industry for Graphics — University of Art, Architecture and Design Prague. Member of the Czech Fine Arts Fund (ČFVU), since 1937 member of the Association of South Bohemian Artists. He lived and worked mainly in Prague, but often returned to his hometown Husinec. He liked landscapes of the Elbe, small Czech province town Mělník, and set up a studio in small-town Obříství. His pictures can be found in many Czech and foreign collections - for example in the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká nad Vltavou or the gallery of the Prague capital. For his life's work, he was awarded the title of «Honored Artist» in 1978 and the title of «National Artist» in 1988. He has organized a number of personal exhibitions in the Czech Republic, for example Prague (Brussels Pavilion, Mánes, U Hybernů House, House of Fine Arts, etc.), and in small Czech towns such as Písek, České Budějovice, Olomouc, Litoměřice, Vodnany, Prachatice, Klatovy, Roudnice nad Labem etc. abroad House of Culture Bratislava
