Glare in photos is from my cellphone camera. The cover glass could use a carefully good cleaning. Daguerrotypes were the first publicly available photo process and was used during the 1840s and 1850s. The process was invented by Louis Daguerre in 1839. The daguerreotype photo was popular until 1856 when the new, less expensive ambrotype process was invented. Collectors of Early Photography: 1840's, going by the clothing style. That makes this daguerrotype photograph roughly 180 years old. Antiquity on so many levels; someone's ancestor, a glimpse through time of clothing styles, and last-but-not-least, a marvel of early photography.---Kindly-looking woman, there's a sense of calmness about her photograph. Her hands reveal, though, that she's been a hard worker.
