Description: On offer today is a lovely antique Käthe Kruse doll VIII, who's dated on her head 11 Nov. 1937. Note - please don't message me asking for the clothing separately, I don't want to split them up, thank you. MARKS:I can just faintly see the remnants of the markings on her feet, but they are unreadable. They were the "iodine pink" signature and foot number, and these are often worn away or faded. On her other foot in pencil is a number, probably artists' or assemblers' factory check mark. CONDITION:She is in lightly played-with condition... for a doll of her fragile materials she is in *amazing* condition for her age, overall. BODY condition: Limbs are in good condition, just minor fading and dinginess. Her socket-neck head turns and swivels. She is stuffed with reindeer hair (pre-war, no ersatz materials!). HEAD condition:Her paint is 99% original! She has some touch-up on her forehead up near her hairline, and at the tip of her nose. It's not terribly obvious, it looks more like wear. Her eyes are a pretty light brown color, with radiating irises. She has the long, visible neck seam at the nape of her neck. She has her original date stamp (black) on her head "11 Nov. 1937" WIG condition:Her wig is original, and still affixed to her head with its original glue. The golden blonde human hair is rooted (handgenupfte). According to a 1937 catalog illustration, her original hairstyle was shoulder length wavy/curly, caught up in a bow on one side toward the back with a white silk hair ribbon. The hair feels a bit dry/rough, -unrestored condition. She came to me with the amber-colored barrette in her hair, and I have left this relic of her child owner's styling intact. CLOTHING condition:She came to me with her original dress and apron, and a long dirndl type outfit. I left her as she arrived... It's not often you see a Kruse Doll VIII in a longer dress. I looked at the fabrics, stitching, construction methods, and snaps, and I do believe the long dirndl type dress/skirt has been with her since the 1930s, perhaps made by her original little mommy. She also has her original sturdy cotton floral short play dress, which has a sheer apron trimmed with lace. I have had this dress authenticated as an original late 1930s Kruse doll dress, by expert Kruse collectors. Her one-piece undergarment is also original. Over this she wears an organdy garment that looks like a slightly oversized camisole, this might have been her original outfit's original apron, as seen in the catalog. However I left the short waist-tie apron with the lot since it came to me with her Her white anklet socks are vintage hand-sewn replacements of thin white cotton jersey (Similar to the originals). Her white kid leather shoes are original. The sole/heel on one shoe, and the heel on the other are replacements I put on to keep her shoe together, since the original sole/heels were missing. Her black wool Bavarian sweater is likely original, also. It's very fragile and has mends and holes, and is missing two tiny silver-metal buttons. MEASUREMENTS:She is about 20" tall, or 52cm. She's a wonderful Kruse girl who's almost completely original, in quite good condition! My photos don't do this beauty justice!
