Simple utensils fashioned from clay, pewter and wood were to be found in every medieval houdsehold.” “Many of them were produced by craftsmen from the surrounding area. Local potters made cooking vessels, dripping trays, jugs and cups of reddish-brown earthenware. More costly utensils were imported to the Netherlands along the Rhine and Meuse. Many bronze and copper items came from the Meuse Valley. Such objects were generally owned by wealthy citizens and the Church.” “The Renaissance is represented by a collection of Spanish and Italian majolica of international repute and by Venetian glassware, furthermore by majolica produced in the North Netherlands, highly decorative Rhenish stoneware drinking vessels (bellarmines, bealers and peasant-dance jugs) and high-grade pewter from France and South Germany.” “The book also contains an outline of the history of the department and its pricipal donors.”
