Dell D400 Windows 98se - RETRO GAMING LAPTOP - dual boot, 100GB/51MB w/PCI dock+

Description: Very nice classic Dell Latitude laptop setup for retro gaming with Windows 98se and Windows XP Pro SP3. This lot includes a Dell dock with built in PCI slot and power supply. The dock also has a removable Dell DVD/CD-RW optical drive in the MultiBay- can use Dell 3.5" floppy drives and hard drives too with the correct adapter. The PCI slot can accept PCI sound cards, video cards, network, etc. Dock adds DVI, VGA, and S-Video ports, PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports, S/PDIF digital audio port, and 5 USB ports. Haven't tested all the dock features and it's possible some won't work well with Win98. The dock is heavy so if you don't want or need it then shipping should be less expensive if you contact me before purchase. Since this is being sold mainly for retro gaming I confirmed a bunch of 1990's and early 2000 games that are playable on this laptop, see the end of the listing text for a partial list. See ebay video for details like how fast it boots and how it plays 3D games like Unreal Tournament.. For testing there are some NES and SNES emulators, arcade style games, shareware, etc. installed. Both Windows 98 and Windows XP have all available updates and security patches installed. Win 98 has the USB update that allows it to read flash drives formatted in FAT32- mass storage driver. Also extras like codecs, Media Player classic, various utilities and third party patches. The Windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit installation is from an "integrated" setup CD that includes MyPal web browser based on a backported version of Firefox that can browse most modern websites. It also includes all the updates and security patches that were available as of Nov. 2024 as well as third party patches and performance tweaks. When you start the computer a boot menu comes up that lets you choose Windows 98 or Windows XP. If you choose nothing after 10 seconds Win98 will start and it boots pretty quickly. Laptop has just been cleaned. There is some minor cosmetic wear to the finish but no apparent damage or issues. It's been used frequently in the last few months to play classic games and never had a single freezeup or bluescreen, always boots right up. Display is excellent- bright with sharp color, no apparent issues or bad pixels. All the keys on the keyboard are working. Trackpad and mouse buttons work well. Good sound from built in speakers. The case is aluminum alloy and it has a quality feel to it. BIOS battery is dead- seems to save BIOS settings as long as you keep the main battery in, and/or plugged in.
