Description: "Department 56" "Snow Village" "Gothic Revival Farmhouse" The American Architecture Series feature Snow Village houses carefully designed to reflect the details of a particular style of architecture that has made a mark in the history of American building. This is the 17th unique introduction to the series. Gothic Revival was a style of architecture popularized in America from 1830-1860. Characterized by steep rooflines and gingerbread trim, our brick house is fine example of Gothic Revival. Note the oriel window, which is the small bay window over the larger main floor bay window. Other noted characteristics include the multiple, decorative pots or caps at the top of the chimney and the hood moldings over each window with decorative side flanks known as corbel stops. Sisals wreaths at the windows and sisal topiaries at the front porch, along the sculpted holly vine on the front corner add a dash of holiday cheer. The complimentary shades of blue accent the warm glow from the windows on a winter evening. We imagine this Gothic Revival house was built in the country, thus the formal title of "Gothic Revival Farmhouse".
