It is an authentic old book plate, at least 75 years old, from a book of drawings by Diana Thorne, and not a modern reproduction. ABOUT DIANA THORNE Diana Thorne, born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, left for Germany in 1912 to attend art studies in Munich and Berlin. Unfortunately, the First World War began two years later and Thorne, a Canadian citizen, was detained by the German government as a hostile alien. Diana, however, managed to escape to England where she supported herself for several years as a reporter, librarian and writer. It was during this period that she began illustrating and etching. Diana Thorne moved to the United States in 1917, where she became one of America's most recognized canine artists. Some of her most famous illustrated books include Puppy Stories, Chips, Cocker Spaniel, Major and the Kitten, Baby Animals, The Dog Book (1932), Dog-Basket (1930), and Your Dogs and Mine (1935).
