Description: The original edition of Volume 1 of this now-classic culinary reference book (of 2 published). TEXT IN FRENCH. Hard cover with white paper-covered boards with embossed design on the front. 464 pages. In good condition with age-darkening of the covers, and some shelf-soil and foxing (brown spots). Interior is clean. The Academie of Gastronomes was founded in 1930 by Curnonsky. A list of members is included in this book, spanning the culinary and literary world. Not strictly (or at least not only) a dictionary, since many entries go beyond a simple definition to include etymology, and historical and descriptive information. It covers culinary terms, ingredients, locations and people, with a focus on French and European cuisine. An excellent reference, but also entertaining and instructive reading. Many black and white illustrations and a frontispiece by Dunoyer de Segonzac. Designed by Jean Garcia and printed 30 November 1961 by the Imprimerie Berger-Levrault at Nancy.
