Please note that there sometimes can be a slight color variation from Photo to actual art work Dipak Banerjee’s paintings seek to establish communion with the almighty Dipak Banerjee’s works stand to be compared to Biren De, an Indian modernist artist whose works depicted geometric, symmetric paintings. While Biren De’s works leaned towards the abstract, Dipak’s stick to the roots of Hinduism with painted wording of Aum and imagery of Krishna. Dipak’s interpretations, however, are quintessentially neo-tantric. Dipak Banerjee is well versed with Intaglio — a printing technique that uses an etched or engraved plate. The plate is smeared with ink and wiped clean; the ink left in the depressions makes the print. In Dipak’s works, you can see a controlled construction of a narrative. He arranges motifs in specifics positions to create substance. Dipak’s art uses expressive symbols of Tantra but have more of a liberal perspective; the exhibition titled ‘Saswat — the eternal’ is a series devoted to conveying the proverbial image of an omniscient and powerful almighty. If you take his painting titled, ‘Krishna’, you can see Krishna standing over a form that bears resemblance to the sheshanag. Strong lines mark the paintings. The orange gradually turns to yellow and the pinks turn orange, the blue recedes into green and the green into grey. There is an intrepid luminosity that accompanies his work. The Krishna (in most paintings) and the figure of Durga are almost represented in an enlightened manner. His painting ‘Sahasrar’ depicts the opening of the seventh chakra — that which relates to the crown of the head and has to do with absolute knowledge. It is perhaps important to understand that while religious symbolism is present in the paintings, the works themselves exude spirituality.
