Description: Very rare and important moment in television and social history represented here. Anthropomorphic kitsch made in Japan for Disney Productions in 1961. Stamped on bottom. This is a Very Rare Disney collectible. In 1961 after a dispute Walt moved his weekly show from ABC to NBC. A new network and some very big firsts. One of the biggest changes was the switch from black and white to color! The second was the introduction of a new character designed for the first time ever specifically by marketers for TV. Introduced as an uncle to Donald duck. Professor Ludwig von Drake is a wacky genius, world traveler and educator. Shaper of the narrative, if you will. He replaced Jimminy Cricket as host. He was simultaneously launched on TV, in a comic strip and his own comic book. Ludwig reminds me of Werner von Braun another Disney favorite. Operation paperclip educates a nation. Check the photos! Ludwig is literally bursting through the television screen to shake hands and introduce himself as the host and ambassador of Walt Disney in color. I don't know if it's Huey, Lewi or Dewey but whoever it is they are ready to be hypnotized sitting front and centering - The golden age of being raised by TV had begun and the world has never looked back.
