Early Reprint (1976) Which Caused a Hobby Furor in its Day DIZZY DEAN, FRANKIE FRISCH, ERNIE ORSATTI & TEX CARLETON of the St. Louis Cardinals | 1935 Goudey 4-on-1 Puzzle Card REPRINT One of 96 marked "REPRINT 123" issued in 1976 in announced quantities of 5,000 to 10,000 of each card The sports card hobby generally and baseball card collecting in particular was exploding in the mid-1970s causing enterprising hobbyists to reprint older (mainly 1930's and 1940's) cards of (again, mainly) Hall of Fame quality players to fight the inflated prices which afflicted collectors of the day. The first group of reprints were well done - on good quality card stock, nice reproductions and, unfortunately, NO mention of REPRINT anywhere.This card is what might be termed a Second Generation card. Same high quality as the first but with "Reprint 123" printed at the bottom, clearly delineating these great REPRINTS from the highly sought originals. Even with the addition of REPRINT 123, many collectors of the vintage cards were not pleased. In the end, reprints held the day and now these older reprints carry a premium value - they're nearly half a century old!Card size is 2-3/8" by 3".Condition: Excellent to Near-Mint or betterANY number of single cards will be shipped for the single card shipping cost if you request a combined invoice before paying.
