Description: After a bit more than 60 years of collecting coins, it is time to move these along so they do not wind up in an “estate” sale! I have finally gotten around to letting my ancient coin collection go and here is a nice big coin 28mm diameter bronze AE AS of Domition as Augustus (81-96AD) AE AS with Fortuna on the reverse. One the obverse is nice clear portrait bust right of Domition with the legend IMP CAES DOMITION AVG GERM COS XIIII CENS PER PP (with part of the legend worn). On the reverse is Fortuna standing left holding the prow of a boat in one hand and a cornucopia in the other standing between the legend SC which showed that the coin was minted with the consent of the Senate. The complete reverse legend, some of which is worn away reads FORTVNAE AVGVSTI. Domition was born in 51 AD and like many of his peers, struck down by an assassin while in the bath in 96 AD. He was bent on establishing aggressive military campaigns and ruled as Caesar from 69-81 AD and as Augustus from 81-96 AD. I purchased this one from Colosseum Coin Exchange in the late 1980s who ran one of the top mail order and phone ancient coin auctions which is the way it was done before the internet. Let’s face it, the internet has made it a lot easier to shop for coins, compare prices, and get information without having to go down to the local library! While uncertified, I purchased this one in “VF” condition but of course you judge the condition for yourself. As with all the coins I am selling from my collection, if any fail to authenticate from any professional grading service I will absolutely buy it back from you at your full purchase price and pay return shipping. As I bought this one a while back, I can offer it at a good price and will provide FREE SHIPPING to within the US.
