Circa 1912, originally, these buttons were cigarette company giveaways. There are hundreds of variations in these pinbacks (7/8 inch). Some of the contributing artists include Harry “Bud” Fisher (known for the popular “Mutt and Jeff” comics of yesteryear), Tom McNamara, R.L. “Rube” Goldberg, “TAD” (Thomas Aloysius Dorgan), Gus Mager, Hal Hoffman amongst others. I have dozens of different cigarette pinbacks I am listing. I am open to reasonable offers for multiple pieces. All graphics and lettering still crisp, has the original paper back label with cigarette brand. No abnormal wear or damages. See pictures for condition verification. N.Y., W & H CO., PATENTED”. See pictures. ORIGINATION: This button comes from my mother’s amassed collection of turn-of-the-century pinbacks. She collected them in the 1990s, purchasing many through catalog-mail auctions (Hakes). KNOWN ERA/ YEAR OF ORIGIN: 1912.
