Dunkirk OHIO Chtr 6628 $20 1929-1 The First Nat'l Bank of Dunkirk: Truly RARE!

Description: Dunkirk, is one of the two most elusive notes of the six banks of Harden County, Ohio. Dunkirk's first bank was the Woodruff Bank (state chartered.) in 1875. They remained a state chartered bank until another local group organized the First National Bank of Dunkirk on February 9th 1903. Mr. Woodruff soon realized the advantages of being a national bank and re-organized his bank as a national bank, soon thereafter in March of the same year. Both those banks issued large size notes, but they are VERY difficult to acquire. The Woodruff National Bank closed July 15, 1925 under honorable conditions. There was no liquidation nor forced closure; just closed under their own auspices. Therefore, only the First National Bank of Dunkirk issued small size notes from this village. Appearances: The print run for those notes issued was indeed small: only 7086 $10 notes (1181 sheets) and 1740 $20 notes (290 sheets.) Today, we know only a total of 23 small size notes broken down as follows: 15 $10 notes and a mere 8 $20 notes. The note herein offered is one of the scarcer denomination, the $20 note. Since 1997 there have been only 15 appearances of all these notes at auction. Two notes have appeared twice; therefore only 13 notes have appeared out of the 23 known notes. There has been only 3 of those 13 which have been the $20 notes like the one offered here. This one is the fourth note. Condition: We rate this as a F(15.) Both censi concur it is rated as fine. With the exception of the Kelly note, all known $20s are in Fine condition rated from F(12) to F(15.) Therefore, this note as a Fine(15) is most likely one of the better notes. Pricing: Prior to Price & Track and the NBNC we, in the currency community, had no idea how scarce these notes were. And that fact is reflected in the low prices of the first decade of this century. Two of these $20 notes brought only $98 in 2009 at public auction. Another brought $360 in $2009 here on eBay. The last $20 note in F(12) brought at auction $456 in July of 2023, almost one year ago. This is the only the second time a $20 note from this bank has ever been offered on eBay. This note with this serial number has never been offered in over 25 years. The last known note offered at private sale was on Don Kelly's list in July of 2018. That was offered at $450 at the time and it was VF, the highest grade known. We purchased that note from him. This is the fourth of the eight $20 notes which is known. We have purchased and sold three of the known eight* $20 notes. It is for this primary reason we are offering this note in F(15) condition at $647. This will be the fourth and most likely last available offering of a $20 note since records have been kept. It is not likely that another one will be offered in the near future. Quality is like oats: it is cheaper after the horse than before. Always, always buy quality. It is what gains the fastest in price. Good notes are not cheap, and cheap notes are not good. Quality, QUALITY, QUALITY. In this case, quality is what one can find. © 2024 Macuquina As always, shipping by this seller is gratis/free. Questions? Please feel free to ask. We are always willing to expand knowledge and pass it to others. Knowledge is the key to intelligent collecting. All scans of this note are made without photoshop nor light adjustment. The note you will receive will be this exact note. Serial number will be EXACTLY the same. N.B. Sales tax may be an issue for you when purchasing. Depending upon the state of delivery, you may have sales tax, you may have none, or you may subject to a threshold tax. PLEASE ASK. Ebay tells me they are prepared to give refunds for states which have no tax. even though a sales tax may be implemented at the time of sale. This seller will always assist you. I have the information on the sales tax applicability for each state. So please consult me. I have been instrumental in obtaining over $10,000 in sales tax refunds for my eBay clients. My service for this is FREE to my clients. My personal issue: sales tax is a levy on tangible personal property. By definition, all money is intangible, so why should it be taxed at all? Ever! This note has no tears, pinholes nor ink stains. P.S.: If you are wondering why a dealer from Miami, Florida is dealing in Ohio National Currency, it is because I spend about 6 months of the year in Ohio, as well. In Ohio, I am known as a dealer’s dealer and am consulted by other dealers and financial institutions for price guidance and as an acquisition specialist. The point is: my prices are NOT taken out of the air. They are carefully decided by the market and rationality. * One census has 6 notes, the other 7 notes. We know of an additional note not in either census.
