DWARF SERPENTINE VIENNESE REGULATOR WALL CLOCK weight driven STUNNING CASE works

Description: A very beautiful, serpentine Viennese regulator wall clock which was made in Austria and retailed from their London showroom by Bowen circa 1860. Offered in lovely condition and good working order. The serpentine shaped clocks began to appear around 1850 until 1885 and their curvy shape was a response to the geometric, angular shaped clocks of the earlier Biedermier period regulators. This example carries the original retailers label pasted to the back, BOWEN, though the clock itself has no makers mark upon it. This 8 day, weight driven clock is known as a dwarf or miniature with the weight dropping 3/4 the height of a standard sized regulator and the pendulum much shorter too. This example with burr walnut case featuring wonderful figuring to the timbers and quarter veneering to the backboard inside the case. There is a lock to the front door as well as large stabilisers to keep the case steady on the wall. The original hanger has been supplanted by the addition of another (easier to use) and the original crown has now been lost though reproductions can be acquired. The clock case measures 33" (84cm) in total length, 14.75" (37cm) at the widest point and 5.25" (13.5cm) at the deepest. The dial is 7.25" in diameter.
