Description: Ruby flash glass is a type of flashed glass that was sold at places tourists visited, such as train stations, attractions, and events like fairs. It's often engraved with the date, place, and event title, making it easy to identify. Ruby glass was first produced around 1679 by Johann Kunckel von Löwenstern, a glass technologist and chemist from Potsdam, who kept the recipe a secret. The difficulty in producing the color was that the glass initially appeared gray and only turned red when reheated. Ruby stained glass was also a popular souvenir between 1890 and 1910. This item is not marked with a year of manufacture. If you have specific questions or want to see additional pictures prior to purchasing this item, please contact us.
