Description: Very unusual and rare early 19th century Japanese cloisonne plate with flowers in the center surrounded by a border of stylized clouds in cavetto and 3 dragons chasing each other along the wide rim, flower design on the bottom and 3 scrolled feet. Superbly made in creative imitation of Chinese Ming Dynasty cloisonne (see the mischievous faces of the dragons), very rich visually, all metal wires and surfaces including feet were gilded (expected wear), beautiful enameling, some original pitting to the surface typical for early pieces, in superb condition for a 200-year old piece. Probably the most interesting piece of Japanese cloisonne that I have ever had. Diameter 6 3/8 inches.
