Description: Description: An excellent early 20th century folk art drawing of the West Chester Quaker Meetinghouse, in West Chester, Pennsylvania. It's executed in graphite pencil on a large sheet of cream-colored wove paper, probably by a young person with some basic knowledge of perspective drawing. It dates to sometime after 1907, as that was the year the Colonial Revival style porch was added to the 1868 front of the meetinghouse. Probably 1907-1909, or 1910s. Provenance: from the collection of Paul Rodebaugh, an educator, author and historian who collected material on Quaker and Chester County history. Size: Sheet is 11.875" x 17.5" Mark: Signed "R. Bates" in lower right. Condition: Some light smudging and soiling to sheet, not affecting drawing. Tape residue on reverse, which has resulted in a stain in the top right corner of the front of the sheet; stain on reverse of sheet in top center, which shows though slightly to the front. Otherwise fine. Shipping weight is 4.0 lbs. Shipping and insurance will be $19.95 to any street address in the contiguous US. We are always happy to combine shipping at actual cost.
