Scarce Untouched Early 1845 pattern Infantry Officer's Sword & Scabbard by Hebbert & Co., Pall Mall Click images to enlarge Description Up for Consideration is a Scarce Untouched as found Early 1845 pattern Infantry Officer's Sword by & Scabbard by Hebbert & Co., Pall Mall East, London c1845 A scarce unusual and early untouched as found British 1845 pattern infantry officer's sword retailed by Hebbert & Co., Pall Mall East, London. Hebbert & Co. were a quality retailer and sold swords made by good quality makers such as Reeves and Wilkinson. This sword is very early in the 1845 pattern's history due to the makers name etched only on the scabbard instead of the ricasso and the lack of a proof slug. This probably places the sword at around 1845 or very soon after. The blade is unmarked or engraved and is in good condition and with very little pitting and or rust and could be cleaned up quite easily. The hilt is marked with the number "12" which could be the regiment or rack number and is quite firm on the tang, This is the earliest example with the rare solid brass grip and the folding guard drop works and stays more or less in place. The original Leather and Brass scabbard is very delicate and should be drawn from the sword with care. It has significant ware, but leather is intact though the brass twin suspension rings and neck hardware does not stay in place and should be glued down after leather is re-lacquered. This is a good example of a scarce 1845 pattern infantry officer’s sword, an increasingly hard to find sword, especially with the solid brass grip. Display as it was found or make it a fun restoration project.
