To learn more about us click on our profile We believe without doubt that this painting is an authentic work of the well known Austrian artist of the 19th century, Eduard von Engerth. Eduard von Engerth (1818 Pless/Upper Silezia - 1897 Semmering/Lower Austria) studied from 1837 at the Viennese Academy under the Nazarene painters Fuehrich and Kupelwieser. In 1847-53 he toured through Europe, meeting Peter Cornelius in Rome. In 1854 he was appointed Director of the Prague Academy. From 1865 he worked as Professor of the Vienna Academy, becoming Director of Belvedere Gallery (nowadays the Austrian National Museum) in 1871. In 1873 he was knighted. He was Director of the Vienna Academy from 1874 to 1876. The attribution of this painting to E.v. Engerth is also supported by our additional image # 6.
