Description: I am listing a selection of exceptional Japanese and other audiophile pressings over the next few weeks; many sealed new old stock best pressings from a back room stock bought long ago, also slowly being added in my ebay store. One of the hardest to find of all this series in any countries issue: Japan EMI/Toshiba Great Recordings of the Century series first type issue of Edwin Fischer - Schubert wanderer fantasy, moments musicaux Leatherette finish blue sleeve with gold label and the original OBI and booklet, keeping the UK Great Recordings style right down to the colour and design of the labels. This 40 to 70 year old undated record is near mint, with clean labels and insert. Sleeve is near mint, no pen or splits, creases or bends. Looks barely played. Surfaces are unmarked. A personal favourite account of the wandere that also got exceptional reviews when new and in all the reissues (review below), and has stayed a gold standard for anyones later versions. Lovely big valve mono sound to these Japanese issues, rarer than the French & UK ones. The great Schubertian Fischer in the wanderer fantasy & moments musicaux. Blue leatherette and gold sleeved Great Recordings of the Century Series 1st Japanese press, (same 50s/60s age and feel as the Uk ones to the best of my knowledge, as the Reference reissue series follows in the late 70s to early 80s in completely different packaging, in France and Japan). The use of the envelope type inner sleeve and the age of the paper for the booklet confirm this.Gramophones CD reissue (in inferior transfers to this vinyl issue) review says of this: "Fischer’s aristocratic rapport with Schubert’s spirit remains as enduring as ever; a quality of grace given to very few. Razor-sharp articulation and rock-solid rhythm he left to others and yet in the Wanderer Fantasy (a notoriously demanding work, and the only instance where Schubert unleashed a virtuoso power at odds with his domestic image), his insouciance denies all emphatic point-making and his textural and rhythmic subtlety remains deeply life-enhancing. His “seamless legato wedded to an atmospheric pianissimo”, as Pearl’s excellent accompanying note has it, and his ability to clarify and refine music always in danger of strenuousness and opacity are evident in every bar.The Impromptus, too, are among his chief recorded glories. Again, Fischer is one of those special artists who make their musical points without seeming to make them at all; everything is achieved without pedantry or governessy intervention." Praise indeed!. Our ethos is to offer you best sounding analogue only pressings of vintage records. Here is another beauty of that type. We offer massive postage subsidies to overseas buyers on multiple purchases. i.e £1 extra per lp to a maximum of £15, then no extra charge. We pack carefully in custom made hard card boxes. If the appearance or playgrade suggests it requires it, our records are cleaned on a wash and vac machine, using art du son fluid in distilled water. This is already in a new heavy poly outer with antistatic inners added with outer sleeve and records all layered behind each other to prevent splits.
