EF Johnson Ultracom, Low-Band 42 Mhz. X 2

Description: This is for two EF 507 Ultracoms on 42.00 Mhz. These were working when removed from service. They are 25 watts. One has a speaker where rats ate the cone out of. The other should be OK. The HI-Z mics have been removed. These are great receivers, better than any low-band Motorola. The reason is that these use a special IC chip in the detector stage which rejects all AM signals. This means the AM Paulse-type noise are eliminated. I have compared: I used a Mocom-70 which has a great properly tuned noise blanker. Placed the receiver in a electrical noisy area and had the base call. The Ultracom heard the dispatcher with noise, but heard clearly. The Motorola did not even break the squelch. I also injected a .5 Uv signal in the Mocom-70 and the signal broke the squelch with a bit of noise on the speaker. I did the same to the Ultracom and it did the same, but the Ultracom was slightly more sensitive. I turned on the heater fan of the vehicle on and the signal disappeared on the Mocom-70, getting swamped by the noise. The signal came on very good to the Ultracom but only slight popping noise. These Ultracoms are also used in VHF Taxi service with the same surprising results on VHF as they also used the same IC in the VHF unit as well as their scanner. The scanner worked very well in the mobile because it was effective rejecting noise. If you want to monitor a weak signal on low band, you want this receiver if you are in a high noise area. You are getting two radios here missing the mics and one has the power plug on the back broken. Although these radios do not have super selectivity, they are good. They are great for a low-band repeater receiver do to their exceptional noise rejection; better than any GE Master or Motorola receiver. These are easy to tune. Flat-rate shipping: $ 30.00
