It is adorned with rare blue Sleeping Beauty turquoise, red Mediterranean coral, and two rattlesnakes, one with blue turquoise-stone eyes and the other with red coral-stone eyes. In the Zuni culture, the snake is a symbol of healing, fertility, and goodwill. Effie C. Calavaza (1927-2019) with her hallmark "Effie C. Zuni", as stamped on the back of this belt buckle, is one of the most widely recognized Zuni artists. Experts in Native American art consider her an influential, prolific, and classic Zuni jewelry artist, and her work is carried by jewelry galleries around the world.
