Description: Elizabeth L. Rothwell (c.1877 - 1946) was active/lived in Pennsylvania. I was only able to find a couple other auction results for the artist and this particular painting seems to be one of the finest the artist produced. It is a pretty amazing painting with a heavy, thick impasto, and it is in overall good condition, considering its age. it does have a label on the back where it was exhibited a couple times and in 1915 won third place. The painting does come with the original book showing the painting. There is no date that I can see on the piece, but since it was entered in an art fair in 1915, I’m guessing it was painted between 1900-1915? According to the label on the back it looks like the painting was also exhibited in 1947. "The Chinese Vase" Elizabeth Lindsay Rothwell Exhibited 1915 in Associated Artist's exhibit at Carnegie Galleries. Awarded Third Honor. Reproduced in catalogue for that year. The frame may be original to the piece, but I can’t be certain? The frame does have a bit of where with age such as some scratches and paint loss and dings. The painting measures approximately 32x33 inches framed, viewable size approximately 26 1/2 x 27 1/2”. As you could see from the photos, there is new hardware on the back of the painting, securing it to the frame. Thanks for your interest.
