(includes all these extras) Elizabeth Taylor The legendary actress whose name conjures up images of glamour, drama and a jet-set lifestyle, quietly passed away at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. She was 79 years old. According to her publicist, the actress passed away from complications due to congestive heart failure, which she had struggled with for some time. Although Taylor was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 11, there was hope that she would recover enough to return home; instead, she spent her last birthday there, on Feb. 27, and never made it back home. The press swarmed around Taylor ever since she shot to Hollywood stardom during the 1940s. In her early years, the coverage generally revolved around her various failed relationships, including eight marriages to seven different men. In her later years, the press was continually speculating about her health. In 2009, after undergoing an operation for a leaky heart valve, she took to her Twitter account to shoot down rumors about diabetes and other complications. Taylor was born in London on Feb. 27, 1932, to two Americans. Her mother, Sara Taylor, would live to be 99; she passed away in 1994. As an actress, Taylor enjoyed the most acclaim during the 1960s, which is when she won her two Oscars. In 1961, she was awarded the Best Actress Oscar for the film "Butterfield 8." In 1967, she won another one for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" In her later years, Taylor was best known for her active involvement in fighting AIDS; her passion for the cause was triggered by the death of her friend Rock Hudson. The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation is one of the leading charitable organizations in the world that revolves around the disease. In her absence, the foundation will undoubtedly continue on her mission.
