Description: BLUE HAWAII was Elvis's soundtrack by Elvis. RCA released in on October 20, 1961 after recording the tracks in studio and on the movie set the previous six to eight months. It was nominated for a Grammy in 61 for "Best Soundtrack for a movie." The movie was one of Elvis's better performances and one he enjoyed making most. As is well known, he was not crazy about Colonel Parker's outlandish commitment to have Elvis make one movie after another with mundane and sometimes - what we would call today - "less than B or C" worthy scripts. But out of the soundtrack came "Can't Help Falling in Love," which ended up being Elvis's standard "closer" for his extraordinary concerts in the 70's and one of his great all-time hits. Had WEST SIDE STORY not made its debut that year, Elvis would not have come in 2nd to it on the Billboard charts. Blue Hawaii has sold far more than the 3-million depicted on this award (See the Pineapple verbiage). When this award was made by my father, Ken Kittinger who was the premier gold & platinum awards maker on Music Row for 50 years, the album had just been certified Platinum 3X (meaning 3 million albums sold in the U.S. - not counting albums sold internationally). The award was ordered by RCA and the multiple copies made by Mr. Kittinger were sent to radio stations, DJ's, music executives and RCA (as always) asked Pop to make an additional 25% or more to keep in inventory for future orders and requests from them and from the artist or those associated with the album's production. That is why there were many additional copies in his estate. A COA (Certificate of Authenticity) comes with. Please provide a name of the recipient for the COA.
