This new edition also includes the line drawings by Ernest Peixotto from the original edition which, in their subtle intricacy, so well suit these stories; a facsimile of the book's original prospectus; reviews and articles about the book and the author by contemporaries (most notably Ambrose Bierce, who called her 1897 book "a work of supreme genius"); and an 18,000-word introduction giving historical, biographical and critical backgrounds for Dawson's fiction.
