Description: Rare original antique engraving print from an 1860s illustrated journal. This antique print depicts Broadmoor Hospital, a psychiatric hospital at Crowthorne in Berkshire, England. The top view shows the terrace for men, and the bottom shows the airing court for women. The hospital was first known as the Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum. It was built to a design by Sir Joshua Jebb, an officer of the Corps of Royal Engineers, and covered 53 acres (210,000 square metres) within its secure perimeter. The first patient was a female admitted for infanticide on 27 May 1863.The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm). The pictures fill most of it, measuring about 9 x 13 inches, with a caption below it. The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print.
