Because this volume was paperbound, it is fragile. There is wear and chipping to the spine, and chipping, staining, and soiling to the covers. The covers are still attached, but beginning to split. The front and back endpapers are partially glued to the covers, which may have been original with the publication. The low opening bid reflects these condition issues. There are no bookplates, ink names, pen or pencil notations. The etchings are in nice condition and could easily be removed and separately framed. Artist, engraver, and poet Antoine Monnier (1846 - ?) was influenced by Charles Beaudelaire and Charles Meryon. As the introduction notes, his works evoke the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe.
