All text is in Japanese Kanji, but the plates also have captions in English, and there is an index of the plates written in English as well. The images are organized by era, spanning from before the Nara Period (which began in the year 710), through to Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) and after. The last 14 pages provide a timeline. 404 pp. + 14 page timeline. A rare and beautiful find! Condition of this oversize (approx. 9" x 11.25") hardcover book is Very Good Minus. It is an ex-library book showing the usual library stamps and markings on the title page, rear free endpaper, and top of the book block. Dark green leather-covered boards with gilt title to the front cover and the spine. The covers show some marks and wear, especially along the edges, resulting in some loss of material at the ends of the spine and corners.
