EXTREMELY RARE 1933 MARX SUPER DELUXE MODEL BATTERY ELECTRIC COUPE TOY CAR

Description: From a Connecticut Auction comes this EXTREMELY RARE 1930'S MARX SUPER DELUXE MODEL ELECTRIC COUPE TOY CAR. Originally advertised in the first 1933 Sears Christmas catalog, it was described as the “very first all-electric toy automobile” and was offered for $3.19. From the catalog: “The first of its kind! A toy auto that runs by its own electric power. No springs to wind, just throw the switch, and away it goes! Real electric headlights and tail light. Dual switch operates motor and lights independently.” Made from heavy gauge pressed steel, very few of these were made and it is obviously very hard to find and even harder to find in this kind of near-mint condition. As shown, the lithography is virtually mint with just a tiny amount of wear above and behind the driver's compartment and a small area of wear to the paint above the front seat passenger. It's also missing the driver's side headlamp. More importantly, the underside including the battery compartment is completely clean. The black battery cover slides back and forth to cover two batteries at a time. This is untested but I suspect it would work fine based both on the condition of the wiring and how clean the battery compartments are. As shown, the tires and wheels are also in excellent condition. The car is almost 15” long, 5 1/2” wide and about 5 1/2” tall and weighs over 2 ¾ pounds. This is a rare and beautiful toy and would add greatly to any serious toy collection. This was part of a huge toy auction I attended and came home with boxes of trains, trucks and cars, many with their original boxes and some in their original displays.
