Description: 1923 SET - WORLD WAR THROUGH THE STEREOSCOPE & MATCHING TELEBINOCULAR VIEWER: Complete 1923 issued 300 card set of WWI – none missing. Labeled 1 to 300. All cards are super clean. Comes in their three original boxes labeled Volumes I, II, III, IV, V, and VI. Please read below of information on the history of this set and condition. This set includes the optically excellent Keystone Tele-Binocular stereoscope in the original matching box. THE 1923 SET: According to researcher Robert S. Boyd – See Book: “The Great War Through Keystone Stereographs” Copyright 2002, Keystone issued two 300 card sets – the 1921 set and the 1923 set. In 1932, the 300 card set was dropped in favor of a 400 card set. The significance of the 1923 set is the result of Keystone hiring Great War veteran Major Joseph Mills Hanson to edit the Keystone stereographs into a comprehensive story of the war and its aftermath, to improve flow and quality, and to enhance the 3D stereoscopic effect for viewing. The 1923 set and the 1921 had 240 images in common. The 1923 set was updated with new images and also included 17 images from older series that were not in the 1921 set. While the 1921 set had a majority of images from Underwood & Underwood, the 1923 set was nearly evenly split – 151 Keystone images and 149 Underwood images. STEREOVIEW CARD CONDITION: The cards are in unusually super clean condition I would rate them as *MINT-* Many times, the cards have beat up edges and corners – not these! The edges and corners are crisp and clean. The backs are crisp and clean. The images are super clean with excellent contrast. Finally, the stereoview card mounts have the specifically manufactured curve being used at the time to enhance 3D effect. I have included an example photo of several images and the back so you can see the condition – beautiful. I suspect that this set was rarely looked at and is approximately 100 years old. STEREOVIEW BOX CONDITION: See photos for cosmetic appearance of box. The boxes have some wear marks from being stored over the years. The box seams and corners are sturdy. You can see some wear on the printed box titles. STEREOVIEWER CONDITION: The viewer is very clean – see photos. Glass lenses are great – no scratches, no haze, and no fungus – will give crisp 3-D viewing as intended. The box for the viewer has some handling and storage wear – see photo. My Scanner does not do curved stereoviews very well. Please excuse any lighter areas or reflections in the upper image areas. Bid With Confidence!!
