Description: *Revised to add that this basket was identified by the Indian Territory Gallery in Aliso Viejo California This is a beautiful vintage 8" Pima or Papago hand woven basket. It is intricately woven & watertight. The willow shoots, cattails, and devils clawused to create this basket are all natural, many of which have disappeared or are just not available due to encroaching civilization or diminishing resources. The materials must have been collected at the right time of the year and picked carefully. The design represent a people who respected the environment in which they lived. The Papago (Tohono O'odam) weavers of Arizona made baskets similar to the Pima of the same area. Both Tribes used Willow and both used Devil's Claw for decorative material. This item was obtained through the estate of a Native American artifact and art collector in Rancho Mirage, CA. The Basket is in Excellent Vintage condition. B5
