Safford, Published by William S Gottsberger, Murray Street, New York, USA, 1883, 1883 Edition, First American Edition Thus ("1883" only date on Title Page and on Copyright Page; see pics), 1883, Fine Binding Hardcover Book, 208 pages, in English Language only, This is an antique, 1883, book by Felix Dahn (1834 -- 1912), German law professor, German nationalist author, poet and historian. This book is one of his Short Novels of the Migrations ("Kleine Romane aus der Völkerwanderung"). (from Wikipedia) "Felicitas" is an historical novel about the Roman Empire, as it impacted modern Germany. Based in the very Northern Roman empire, it is about the advances of the Gothic tribes towards the end of Roman period (5th Century A.D.). Felicitas is based in Juvavum - the modern day Salzburg - in 476 A.D., and it is an adventure set in the time of the invasion of the Danubian regions by hostile Germanic tribes. From my research online, I found this book belonged to a very famous man: "James B. Pond". It has his full-page bookplate pasted onto this book's front endpaper (inside front cover; see pic). James Burton Pond ( 1838 -- 1903 ) was Union Army Officer in the American Civil War, who received the Medal of Honor. After the War, he became a prominent Lecture Manager, and his clients included Mark Twain, Winston Churchill, and Henry Stanley. He owned this particular book. Very Good Condition [ Top end of spine is slightly chipped (see pics), James B. Pond's full-page bookplate is on front endpaper, third page has name of later owner from 1906 in Brooklyn NY, a few pages of text are very lightly foxed; otherwise, book is very clean, well-bound, tight with strong hinges, solid, and sharply printed ] 10 preface pgs + 208 pages text + 16 pgs Publisher's ads = 234 total pages, approx. 6.5" x 5" x .75", Brown embossed cloth covers with gilt-decorated front and spine titles, top edge gilded, chocolate-brown endpapers, Fine Binding Hardcover Book Welcome international ebay shoppers.
