It is painted slightly different than the catalog shows..to me, it is a bit more busy than what they show in the catalog. But that is my opinion. PLUS it is signed by the designer who developed this pattern in 2004 on this piece as well as others that matched it. As far as SAMPLE goes, I suspect this was introduced to the Fenton family for approval to go ahead with the design. But someone in the family wanted the decoration to be toned down a bit and that is why there are slight differences between this bird and others that were offered to the general public later on. Kim would have made no more than 10 of these but probably closer to only 5 herself and those 5 would have been handed off to other decorators in the factory to COPY her design. Then all of these would have been sold as samples after the decorating was all done. Because I went to the factory many times, I am sure I bought this there for my wife and that is the only reason I was able to get it as I did. The Fenton 2004 catalog states that this design was inspired by the WINE COUNTRY which is a very popular decor for that period and even for today. This all is on page 16 of their catalog. Kind of interesting to read if you have the time to. These type of birds are hard to find and to find in good condition. My wife is selling her own collection of birds as we are getting to the age where we want these to go to a good home and we have nobody to give these too. So out they go. This bird is about 4 inches long from beak to tail, about 2-3/4 inches tall and is about 2-1/4 inches wide from wing to wing. As stated before there is a Fenton logo on it (under the left wing) and inside that logo is an "0" which indicates this was made in the 2000's decade. It is also marked with the USA logo Fenton used also during this period of time but then again, we know this was made in 2004 so it all matches up. haha. I see no chips, cracks or repairs to this bird but of course it has been on display in our home since 2004 when we bought it new. It is a non-smoking home so there is no smoke odor to the glass for those of you who might be concerned about that. Our prices are firm and we will not accept any offers.
