Description: THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL WATERCOLOR & GOUACHE OR ACRYLIC PAINTING BY LISTED MODERNIST ARTIST CONNIE GARDNER . GARDNER WAS ACTIVE FROM THE LATE '60'S THRU THE EARLY '80'S, SHE EXHIBITED IN ALBUQUERQUE AND TAOS NEW MEXICO. HER HUSBAND WAS A NAVAJO NATIVE AMERICAN AND SHE SPENT A PORTION OF HER LIFE LIVING ON THE RESERVATION WITH HIM WHERE SHE EARNED A DEEP RESPECT FOR LOCAL INDIAN CULTURES. THIS COLORFUL WORK DEPICTS THE SPIRIT OF NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE THRU DANCE AND KACHINA STORY TELLING OF NEW MEXICO & ARIZONA INDIGENOUS PEOPLE. ITS QUITE POSSIBLY A HOPI KACHINA DANCER ( MAYBE THE SNAKE DANCER), THOUGH ITS POSSIBLE IT COULD BE NAVAJO (DINE). THEY DID LIVE FOR A TIME ON SECOND MESA WHICH IS AT THE NM/AZ BORDER, SO HOPI IS NOT OUT OF THE REALM. IT IS THE MOST COLORFUL OF THE GARDNER PAINTINGS THAT HAVE SOLD. GARDNER SHIFTED HER TALENTS MANY YEARS AGO TO WRITING AND TO ILLUSTRATING WHICH IS WHY SHE HAS NOT BECOME A HOUSEHOLD NAME, AS SHE IS QUITE TALENTED.
