Description: Presented is a fine quality Georgian English teapot with stand. The teapot dates to 1787, and the tray is dates to 1800. Although the tray was made 13 years after the teapot, the tray was clearly made to match the teapot. Both the tray and the teapot are beautifully hand engraved with nice bands of decoration around the top and bottom and lid of the pot, and around the edge and center of the tray. Both sides of the teapot and the top of the tray have a monogram of 'TAV' in elegant script. The teapot and tray can easily be used separately, however you like. The teapot is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter m for 1787, the duty mark of King George III's head, and the maker's mark for William Plummer. The tray is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter E for 1800, the duty mark of King George III's head, and a maker's mark of SH, possibly for Solomon Hougham, which has been struck over a pre-existing maker's mark, probably the same WP as the teapot, but it's hard to say. The teapot and stand are in great overall condition. The teapot's wooden handle has had a repair, it has been pinned near the top. The bottom of the handle also has a minor split near where it joins to the teapot. The handle is very firmly attached and feels quite sturdy. The teapot has no leaks, no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The tray has no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The teapot weighs 504.4 grams or 17.7 regular ounces. The tray weighs 146.4 grams or 5.1 regular ounces. The total weight for both pieces is 650.8 grams or 22.8 regular ounces.
