Description: First Home is a vintage James G. Tyler print depicting a sailboat race with a lighthouse in the distance. It is 7”x 9” and is in excellent condition. James Gale Tyler (1855–1931) was an American marine painter known for his dynamic seascapes and ship paintings. His work often captured the drama of the sea, portraying ships in various weather conditions and settings. He was particularly fascinated by maritime subjects, and his works are celebrated for their realistic detail, sense of movement, and atmospheric quality. Tyler worked during a period when interest in maritime subjects was high, especially as steamships and modern naval vessels began to dominate. His paintings of clipper ships and sailboats, however, evoke the nostalgia and romanticism of an earlier seafaring era. Many of his paintings were used for advertising and publications, making him quite popular in his time. He exhibited his works widely, including at the National Academy of Design, and was regarded as one of the premier marine artists of his era. His paintings are still highly valued by collectors of American maritime art. Chuck Olson CollectionChuck Olson spent over 40 years collecting and traveling the United States in search of unique vintage prints. He was especially interested in prints that were printed for use on calendars in the "Age of the Calendar" from 1900-1960. Chuck amassed a collection of well over 10,000 framed and unframed prints before his death. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the item.
