Description: OUR DARLINGS: AT HOME, IN TOWN, AT THE SEA-SIDE, IN THE COUNTRY, AT PLAY five books in one written & illustrated by Mars aka Maurice Bonvoisin Bonvoison was a Belgian artist - 1849-1912. This book was first published in France as "Nos Cheris". There is no date in this English version, but from online research I can date it to the 1890s. The art is superbly detailed in depicting groups of children in assorted settings. The palette is pastel-hued - mostly pinks, blues, browns, greens. The text is minimal - mostly captions for the pictures. This cover seems to be the scarcer edition. Most of the other English versions I see offered for sale have a fan design on the cover - not the two dancing children seen on this one. There are definitely condition issues, but the art is truly marvelous. This book was bought used, but is in good condition - for its age.
