Description: FRAMED & DOUBLE MATTED PUBLIC EDUCATION STAMP This stamp was issued on October 1, 1985 in Boston, Massachusetts to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Boston Latin School. Founded on April 23, 1635, the Boston Latin School is the oldest continuously operating school in the United States. The first school system in the world supported by the public began in Massachusetts in 1647. That year, the colony’s law called for every town with 50 or more families to establish an elementary school. Larger towns were to provide secondary schooling (grammar school) as well. It is double matted in light mauve marbleized on the inner mat & darker mauve-tan on the outer mat. The second picture shows a close-up of the stamp. The frame is burgundy (approximate size is 5 X 7 inches) with dark gold corner accents. Frame comes with easel for standing or hook for hanging. Makes a great item for any teacher or education professional! NOTE: Shadows on the picture are only reflections. The Stamp is UNUSED U.S. POSTAGE STAMP.
