Description: FREDERIKSBERG HAVE Watercolor Prints Signed by Artist Mads Stage Up for bid, we have an exceptionally remarkable signed Watercolor and Pencil Illustration by Danish artist and water-colorist Mads Stage of Copenhagen, (July 6, 1922 –May 28, 2004). It is titled “Frederiksberg Have”, and has written beside the name what appears to read, No 8/. I have been told it is a scenic illustration of Frederiksberg Denmark. The scene is pleasantly serene. It is so finely printed that it is extremely difficult to distinguish that it is a print and not the original painting. This Fine Lithograph Print was printed in Denmark and copyrighted by Stenders Forlag. There is a printed number of which I believe to be a control number at the lower right of the art medium that is 139 000 145, along with Dessin 4. I believe dessin is Swedish for design. The art is contained with a 12½” x 16”Gold Gild Wooden Frames; Olive colored flat gold trimmed mats measuring 15-½” x 11½” with the opening of 9½”x12½”. The illustration itself measures 10¾ x 14½”; it is enclosed with satin/semi-gloss glass. It is backed with cardboard and has a sticker of the Red and White Denmark flag with “S J ART” printed on it. I believe S J Art is an Art Gallery in Denmark. The title is in the lower left corner and the artist signed it in the lower right corner. The frame has some scratches and peeling but nothing that would keep you from displaying the piece right away, Otherwise, this pre-owned artwork is in very good++ condition. I have another Mads Stage print listed… please take a L@@K! ABOUT THE ARTIST Mads Stage born in Copenhagen, (6 July 1922 – 28 May 2004) was a Danish artist. He passed just about two months before his 82nd birthday. Mads Stage was a respected and beloved artist in large parts of the world. His enormous production includes design and decoration of everything from postcards, posters, calendars, stamps and books to porcelain, textiles and much more. Mads Stage has among others illustrated Henry David Thoreau's Walden, or Life in the Woods, Ivan Turgenev's The Hunter's Sketches, fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen and children's books by Danish author Jens Fink-Jensen. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. His favorite scenes are animals and birds of which he was a great connoisseur, but as a versatile artist, he designed artistic textiles, fine articles for everyday use, decoration of china and textile printing. For many years, Mads Stage worked for the Danish medical industry and made a large number of scientific drawings. Further he was a master of city scenes and landscapes and he produced splendid series of water colours from Copenhagen, Stockholm, London, Scotland, Holland, Paris, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and the USA.
