Description: This "Ostrich" book page with picture & verse is from the book "Bird Children" published by Volland in Chicago ca. 1912. Framed with matte it is about 11 inches tall & 9 inches wide. I purchased several of these years ago, each with an informational card. For this one, the card read ""Ostrich" Illustration/Verse from a first edition of "Bird Children" (c) 1912 Volland & Co., Chicago, sweet poems by Elizabeth Gordon, and glorious drawings by M. T. (Penny) Ross, as a companion to their earlier "Flower Children". Interestingly, Ross (1881-1937) far outgrew Gordon in renown and popularity, going on to illustrate for Walt Disney in 1926. This page taken from a first-edition book -the binding of which was missing and some pages scribbled on - and the book unsalvageable except to carefully remove and frame the fabulous Ross drawings". As you can see in the photos, the "Penguin" book page on the other side of the "Ostrich" page is on the back of this non-professionally framed piece. The illustration colors are still clear for a book page over 100 years old. The painted wood frame & twisted wire hanger are ready for this cute whimsical wall decoration. Ships USPS.
