Description: France Auvergne CDV Mont-Dore Clermont Ferrand woman in elaborate dress, Sanitas This is a nice image of a woman in a elaborate outfit, which may be a traditional regional dress. She wears a belted overblouse or vest, and her skirt has multiple layers, as well. She stands in front of an interesting backdrop that makes it look as though she is standing next to an open window. Antoine François Sanitas had a photography business in Clermont-Ferrand from 1870 to 1887. He worked summers at Mont-Dore and winters in Beaulieu. I believe he sold the business in 1907 to Elise Frey, mother-in-law of Georges Detaille. Under image, on front, is printed:"Sanitas" Printed on reverse is: "SanitasMont-DoreSuccursaleClermont Ferrand" Overall yellowing to image. Fading to image. Light soiling to image. Foxing (brown spotting) to image. Card measures 4.125 x 2.5 inches. Photo measures about 3.5 x 2 inches. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.
