Description: Description The former Imperial Hotel is the masterpiece left in Japan by Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), a giant of 20th century architecture. Since its completion in 1922, this building has been loved by many people both inside and outside Japan, but it was demolished in 1967, although it was much missed. Immediately before its demolition, a research group led by Waseda University professor Nobumichi Akashi measured the entire building down to the smallest detail and created drawings based on the measurements. At the same time, Osamu Murai, a leading expert in architectural photography, took a final photograph of the building. The actual survey drawings from this time are the only ones that accurately record the actual appearance of the former Imperial Hotel in the form of drawings, and are valuable materials that are little known even in Wright's home country of America.
