Publius Vergilius Maro, who lived from 70 BC – 19 BC, was an ancient Roman poet. The Trojans, after a seven-year voyage, set sail for Italy, but are overtaken by a terrible storm, which Aeolus raises at Juno's request. The tempest sinks one ship and scatters the rest before Neptune drives off the winds and calms the sea. Aeneas, with his own and six other ships, arrives safe at an African port. When Venus complains to Jupiter of her son Aeneas's misfortunes, Jupiter comforts her and sends Mercury to obtain a kind reception for Aeneas among the Carthinginians. DIDO, Carthage’s founder and queen, welcomes them. Aeneas relates to Dido the long and painful story of his group’s travels thus far and although she has sworn to never take another lover after her husband's death, she is smitten with handsome, sexy Aeneas, and she falls passionately in love. After Aeneas sneaks away in the night, Dido, commits suicide. In the first six books, Aeneas tells of the sack of Troy that ended the Trojan War after ten years of Greek siege. The poem's second half tells of the Trojans' ultimately victorious war upon the Latins. 464 pages. I offer Combined shipping in U.S.
